OZONE THERAPY – OXYGEN, OZONE AND ATMOSPHERE Oxygen: It is: “...a highly reactive element (symbol
‘O’) essential to life, occurring as an odorless gas in the
atmosphere and in chemical combination in water and rocks and comprising
about 50% of the material in and above the earth’s crust…”
(Webster’s Pocket Dictionary). Oxygen is very dear to life. It has now
been recorded that many a disease is caused by insufficient oxygen
levels in individual cells. Ozone: Ozone is: “…(1) An acrid, unstable, allotropic
form of oxygen having 3 atoms per molecule, formed by electric discharge
in air and by high energy solar radiation in the upper atmosphere. (2)
Informal: Air that is pure and refreshing…” (Webster’s Pocket
Dictionary of the English language). The ozonic layer in the atmosphere
absorbs most of the extremely harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun and
protects living organisms from total annihilation. Ozone has many therapeutic uses, which we will see
in another page in this site. It has powerful oxidizing properties and
is therefore a very effective antiseptic and disinfectant. Atmosphere: The atmosphere is an insulating blanket, which protects earth from softening the intense light as well as heat from the sun.
We are interested in Stratosphere. The temperature
here is steady. No variations. There is no dust, clouds or water vapor
in stratosphere. In fact, if you go up above 50 kms, the atmosphere
consists of O1
– Oxygen (atomic oxygen), O3
– Ozone, helium and hydrogen. This Ozone - O3 -
Blanket protects Earth from the bad effects of ultra violet rays
radiating from the sun. It is believed that the excessive use of oxygen, which directly results in an excessive generation of Carbon-di-oxide (CO2), deforestation, excessive use of coal etc., are causing the ozone layer to be depleted. Already there seems to be a gaping hole in the ozone layer. If this is allowed to proceed further, harmful UV rays will penetrate into Earth and in no time Earth will become uninhabitable. |
